At Edgewood Academy, we are committed to providing personalised and meaningful careers education and guidance that supports every student to explore their interests, develop essential skills, and prepare for a fulfilling future. Our small, nurturing environment allows us to offer tailored support that meets the individual needs of our learners, many of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
We recognise that careers education is a vital part of our curriculum and therapeutic approach, helping students to build confidence, develop independence, and understand the world of work. Through a combination of structured lessons, practical experiences, and personalised advice, we equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed choices about their futures.

Careers education is integrated into the curriculum and personalised to reflect each student’s strengths, interests, and aspirations. We focus on developing life skills, employability, and self-awareness.

Students engage in work-related activities, including visits, volunteering, and supported work experience placements where appropriate, helping them gain practical insights and build confidence.
Skills Development
Our programme emphasises essential skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and digital literacy, preparing students for education, training, or employment beyond Edgewood.
Personal Guidance
We provide one-to-one careers guidance sessions with experienced advisors who understand the specific needs of SEND learners, supporting students and families in planning next steps.
Family and Community Engagement
We work closely with families, local employers, and community partners to create meaningful opportunities and support transitions.
Preparing for Life
Our careers education supports students to understand different pathways, including further education, apprenticeships, and supported employment. We help students develop realistic goals and build the confidence and skills needed to achieve them. This approach aligns with our wider commitment to fostering independence, resilience, and lifelong learning.
We welcome visits and input from local education, training, and employment providers to enrich our careers programme and expose students to a broad range of opportunities.
