Admissions Process
Belonging and Individualised Support
A needs-led and personalised admissions process ensuring every placement aligns with each pupil's EHCP.
At Edgewood Academy, our admissions process is carefully designed to be needs-led and personalised, ensuring every placement aligns with the unique requirements set out in each pupil's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Our Admissions Process
Local Authority Referral
We begin by receiving a referral or consultation from the Local Authority, along with the pupil’s EHCP and any supporting documents. This allows us to conduct an initial review of the pupil’s needs.
Admissions Panel Review
Our dedicated Admissions Panel, made up of senior leaders and clinical staff, thoroughly examines the pupil’s EHCP, educational and clinical reports, and other relevant information. This ensures we can confidently assess our ability to meet the pupil’s needs safely and effectively.
Family and Pupil Engagement
We warmly invite pupils and their families to visit Edgewood Academy. During this visit, they meet our staff, tour the school, and gain a clear understanding of our supportive environment. Where appropriate, we may also observe the pupil in their current setting to better understand their learning, social, and behavioural needs.
Final Placement Decision
After careful consideration, the Admissions Panel makes a final decision based on how well the placement aligns with the pupil’s EHCP outcomes and our capacity to provide safe, personalised support. We prioritise the potential for positive educational, social, and emotional development. Once confirmed, each pupil is supported with a tailored induction plan to ensure a smooth and welcoming transition into our school community.
